BREAST SELF EXAMINATION

Breast care foundation advocates for breast self-examination as one of the best primary preventive measure against cancer as it allows early detection of any symptoms of breast cancer.

A recent survey demonstrated that over 70% of women with lumps inBreast Self Examination their breast had intentionally delayed reporting their symptom to the family doctor.
This delay in most cases was not as a result of ignorance but rather fear of having the diagnosis of cancer confirmed and a wish to delay or deny the inevitable, most of these fears could be allayed by an intensive program of public sensitization, for which B.C.F. is committed. A victim with the knowledge of breast self examination will opt for earlier presentation to the doctor with less likelihood of the disease spreading to other parts of the body.

Breast self examination is encouraged to be done regularly at least once a month (at one week after menstruation).
